why toby

toby is building real-time speech translation software for global teams. meaning, we’re building a world where anyone can work with anyone regardless of language. where global teams are not only beyond physical borders, but beyond language barriers. we’re backed by entrepreneur first and transpose. 🗺️

we’re looking for spring (to start asap) and summer interns. you’ll be working directly with the ceo or cto, with competitive compensation, flexible hours, and flexible location (remote, ny/sf in-person optional). this is a great opportunity to work on cutting edge ai. 🤖

we ask two things of you

  1. if you apply, be committed. this means: deliver on what you promise, and promise reasonably. we’ll put a lot of trust in you. take ownership. if you got midterms coming up, we get it, we’re not gonna make you lose sleep. just stay committed and communicative. 🤝
  2. have a learner’s mentality. you don't need to know everything, we’ll help you. but you have to be willing to learn. you can’t teach someone to fish if they’re afraid to brave the unfamiliar waters. 🌊

tech

  • software engineer - server reliability (spring)
  • your role will be working with the cto to manage gpu clusters, load balancing and scalability. we’ll be focused on making the servers stable, robust and optimized as we scale new user onboarding. background in python, docker, or cloud infrastructure preferred.
  • software engineer - analytics (spring)
  • your role will be working with the cto to add server-side analytics. this means tracking how people are using the product – what languages are they speaking? for how long? where are they calling from? what time are they using the tool and how often? background in python, c++, statistics, or (behavioral) economics preferred.
  • machine learning engineer - model training (summer)
  • your role will be working with the cto to train new large language models. these aren’t your typical chatgpt text models – these are all audio based. we’ll be leveraging some open source data, internal data, and hella gpus to make new models for enterprise spanish lingo, or habibi hebrew, or japanese anime cadences, and/or other tailored dialects. we’ll also be quantizing the models as much as possible. background in python, machine learning, or data processing preferred.
  • software engineer - full-stack (summer)
  • your role will be working with the cto to work on scalability of users and development of ux, ui for both our core products and our website. background in python, swift, statistics, or (behavioral) economics preferred.

business

  • growth - social media (spring - spanish fluency required)
  • your role will be working with the ceo to identify new opportunities and tactics to increase organic user acquisition, retention rate, etc. this will be mainly through social media, but other channels include email marketing, seo, partnerships, and others. just get ready to blast a million people per day. we’ll supply you with whatever you need to do so. background in marketing, social media, psychology or (behavioral) economics preferred.
  • designer - product (summer)
  • your role will be working with the ceo to deeply understand our customer’s needs and change our product accordingly. this can be by interpreting their reaction to onboarding our product, or navigating our website, or different color shades, other collected analytics (that you may have to get yourself). we’ll have to revamp our ux, ui and website with the best glowup possible. background in swift, figma, wix or graphic design preferred
